Construction Site Permits
Chapter 24 Article IV of Town Code (Storm Water Management Ordinance (PDF)) requires an approved Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) for land disturbance over 1 acre or a land disturbance of less than 1 acre provided that it is part of a larger plan of development. This plan must be submitted as part of the construction plans.
Obtain a Permit
All construction sites over 1 acre must have an approved Erosion and Sediment Control (ESC) Permit and Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan prior to any land disturbance activity. Read the Project Owner Compliance Guide below to see what steps you should take to successfully receive approval for your project.
For construction sites smaller than 1 acre please contact the Building Department at 219-926-2610.

Post-Construction O&M Plans
The Town requires that long-term storm water control Operation and Maintenance (O&M) plans to be submitted and approved as part of the post-construction approval process. Below is a list of what is required in each plan.
The Storm Water O&M Plan is required to be approved before completion of the project. The plan describes the long-term maintenance guidelines for all post-construction storm water quality measures installed as part of the project to facilitate their proper long-term function. A copy of the plan should be provided to the owner/manager of the property, and to the Town. The Town's requirements for Post-Construction Storm Water Management, including Performance Criteria and Monitoring and Inspection, can be found in Town Code, Chapter 24, Article V, Sections 24-101 through 24-106.
