The Parks and Recreation Department’s primary objective is consistent diligent service for park improvement. Improvements to all play grounds and park facilities are a constant consideration by the Park Board. There are currently 3 employees under Superintendent Griffin: 1 a secretary, 1 mechanic who doubles as a field person and 1 field person.

Below is information regarding Town of Chesterton Park hours, per Ordinance 2020-14, passed and adopted on September 24, 2020.

A. All town parks shall be open to the public from 5:00 AM - 10:00 PM, each calendar day of the year; in addition between April 1 and October 31, Thomas Centennial Park shall be open from 5:00 AM - 11:59 PM. All town parks shall be closed to the public from 10:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following day; with the exception of Thomas Centennial Park from April 1 through October 31, which shall be closed to the public from 12:00 AM to 5:00 AM each day during that period. 

B. It shall be unlawful for any person other than tow personnel conducting town business therein to occupy or be present in such parks, or any of them, during any hours in which the park is not open to the public. 

C. The Park and Recreation Board may permit exceptions to these hours by use permit, festival agreement, or for special public events. 

D. The Park Superintendent may declare any section or part of any park closed to the public at any time, and for any interval of time, either temporarily or at stated regular intervals.
