David J. Novak; LEED AP is responsible for reviewing permit requests for compliance with all applicable codes, standards and ordinances as well as the day-to-day operation of the Building Department.  He also serves as the Chesterton Floodplain Manager.

The Building Department serves to protect the health, safety and welfare of the public and to enhance the general quality of life through interpretation and enforcement of the Indiana Building Code, Chesterton Town Code, Ordinances and other applicable regulations governing construction and land use.

Building Inspector

Rick Fancher is responsible for the onsite inspection related to buildings and their construction to ensure compliance with submitted plans.

Commercial Electrical Inspector

Dave Ellis is responsible for the onsite inspection related to commercial buildings and their construction to ensure compliance with the National Electrical Code.

Code Enforcement Officer

Ed Surgener enforces compliance with all Chesterton codes, standards and ordinances.

Administrative Assistants

Sherry White and Pat Milosevich are responsible for the issuance of permits, the assessment of permit fees, the control and maintenance of departmental records and supplying record information to the public via file searches.
