Utility Department

Indiana American Water Co. has reported another water main break. The road may be closed on Broadway. There is a  boil advisory for the areas between:
Broadway & Morgan for Jackson Blvd & 19th Street
18th Street to the dead end going North & South of Broadway
 Reminder: The boil advisory has taken effect since the repair has been completed.

Street Department

Tuesday, September 7, the Town will be starting a storm sewer project on Calumet Road from Porter Avenue north to Morgan Avenue.  Expect road closures in that area.  If you have any questions, please contact the Town Engineer at 728-1336.

Porter Avenue is closed to traffic between 5th Street and Calumet Road due to a sewer replacement project.  Closure for this section of Porter Avenue is expected to last 3 weeks.

Due to the Labor Day holiday, September 6, refuse and recycling pick up for Town residents will be delayed one day.

Park Department

Registrations for the Duneland Swim Club at the Park office on Tuesday Sept. 7th.  No registrations will be accepted unless the parent/guardian has read the "parents letter".  They will need to initial that they have on the main club form.  If you are BRAND NEW to swim club, please come to register at the Park office in person. Police Department

The Police Department is accepting applications for probationary patrol officer.  Beginning Sept. 1 and must be turned in no later than Sept. 30.  Apps need to be picked up in person at the Chesterton Police Department.  Probationary patrol officer salary is $36,275.

MS4 Program - Annual Coffee Creek Clean Up

The MS4 Program is seeking volunteers for the annual clean up of Coffee Creek on September 25, 2010 from 9:00 am to 11:00 am.  The clean up will be at Coffee Creek Park, off of Morgan Ave., east of Calumet Rd.  Volunteers must register at www.greatlakesadopt.org/home.php Go to "Sign Up Now", choose "Indiana" and "Coffee Creek" and follow registration instructions.  All volunteers must sign a Consent and Waiver form (adult and child).  Download forms here.  For more information see "Creek Clean Up Flyer" below.  Dress appropriately for field work.  Gloves, trash bags, and tally sheets provided.

RECYCLE YOUR LATEX PAINT - Hopkins Ace Hardware (325 S. Calumet Rd) now offers latex paint recycling.  For a minimal per container recycling fee you can take your unwanted latex paint cans (quart up to 5 gallons container size) to Hopkins Ace Hardware.  For more information call them at 219-926-3737.

The Town of Chesterton is fortunate to have access to outstanding physicians and hospitals. With a commitment to providing personalized patient care, Porter Health System combines the expertise of 350 physicians, the convenience of 2 hospitals, 7 centrally located outpatient facilities, and advanced technology to deliver the services and treatment we need. Today, with a steadfast dedication to take healthcare to the next level, Porter has embarked on a mission to build a new, $210 million, 445,000-square-foot healthcare facility that will feature 261 large private rooms – 225 inpatient rooms plus 36 outpatient rooms. This new facility, located just 5 miles south of Chesterton on SR 49 will open in 2012.

More than one thousand associates and physicians provided input into the design of the new hospital to insure that it provides a level of healthcare not currently available in Northwest Indiana. Saint Anthony Memorial

SAINT ANTHONY MEMORIAL will break ground this fall on the region's first full-service, freestanding emergency department and will be completed late fall of 2011. The Chesterton emergency center is being built with Porter County in mind, dedicated to meet the round-the-clock health needs of this vibrant community.
