The hustling, bustling, vibrant town we know and love began in 1852, with the arrival to Northern Indiana of the Lake Shore and Michigan Railroad Line. The proximity to easy transportation helped industry in the town to grow. After seventeen years, the town became incorporated with the name we know today: Chesterton, Indiana.

Emergency Notification Test Call
The Town of Chesterton sent out a test call of the new emergency notification system to all Chesterton Residents who have published numbers and who have signed up for the notification service on Friday, May 4th at 5:00 p.m. This system will be utilized for calls ranging from extreme weather incidents, water main breaks, boil orders to road closures or man-made disasters. Please call the Police department at 926-1136 if you have any questions. Those who received calls are not required to take any action, this is just a test.Residents and businesses who do not receive a test call please add your information by clicking the link to the left. If you have a cell phone number that you would like added to the database please sign up on the Town's website.
