Take the Lawn to Lake Pledge Today

The Town of Chesterton Storm Water Utility encourages residents and businesses to take a healthier, more natural approach to lawn care.  Following on the heels of the Leave It On The Lawn program, we are also promoting the new Lawn to Lake program.  This program promotes landscape practices that reduce pollution, particularly in our waterways.  Take the Lawn to Lake Pledge.  The pledge will show your commitment to practicing natural lawn care and reducing nutrients you put on the ground.  There is a link to the Lawn to Lake Guidebook, a well thought guide to practicable lawn and landscape practices.

Building Department

The Town of Chesterton, in an attempt to inform prospective business owners of sign design and placement, is asking that you please consider the requirements for commercial signage before having a sign created and placed onto a building.

A permit from the Building Department is required before approval can be granted for the size and placement of the sign. The application process is simple.  You will avoid a potential fine if you proceed to put up a sign without a permit. The permit process includes a review by the Building Department inspector to ensure compliance and conformity to sound design standards developed over many years. The fee for the sign permit is according to the size of the sign. Just as signs reflect the uniqueness of your business, they also reflect on the look of our community.

Please contact the Building Department for a permit application at (219) 926-2610 or click the link below to download the sign permit. Thank you for your cooperation.
